As a Rocky Mountain wedding photographer, I get to take my couples to the raddest locations. One of my favorite spots for Colorado engagement photos is Mt. Falcon Park, located just off highway 285 a mere thirty minutes from Denver. It gives perfect mountain vistas without having to deal with the headache that is I-70.
Ashley + Agustin chose this location for their engagement photos and I’m thrilled with what we crafted together! They brought their pup to the shoot too — something I will always say yes to — and for an hour or so we hiked all about the park. We had perfect light and just a touch of a breeze to provide a whimsy windswept look for Ashley’s gorgeous blonde locks.
These two will be getting this September at one of Denver’s newest wedding venues, Moss! I am a sucker for urban weddings, especially those situated in the Santa Fe Art District. I love the colorful walls and plethora of rich textures for portraits, and I’m so excited to photograph Ashley + Agustin at a new venue.
Thank you to Ashley + Agustin for trekking all over Mt. Falcon with me for their engagement photos! Stick around for a quickie interview with the couple about their relationship and their big day.
Mini-Interview with Ashley, the bride-to-be
How did you two meet? “We met in Fort Collins, Colorado, during our final year as students at Colorado State University. Agustin was a super-senior majoring in partying, and I was a senior finance student. At the time the two of us were neighbors, but we did not begin hanging out until Agustin got the courage to buy me a shot of Patron at our favorite college bar: Lucky Joe’s (what a romantic!). From there our story essentially writes itself: we began dating shortly after graduation and six years later we’re getting married! We’ve spent our six years together traveling the U.S. and parts of Central/South America, enjoying the great Colorado outdoors, getting Agustin through grad school, and navigating the stresses of home ownership and pet parenthood. Our relationship continues to grow and evolve everyday, and we’re excited to see what life holds in store for us in the years to come.”
What made you pick a mountain location for your engagement photos? “We chose to do our engagement shoot in the mountains because we enjoy spending time together outdoors (mainly camping/hiking) and we felt that engagement photos in the mountains would capture this element of our relationship. Our wedding is also happening in an indoor venue in Denver (where we live), so we felt the contrast of mountain engagement photos with urban wedding photos conveys the urban/outdoor balance of our life together.”
What are you most excited about when you think about the wedding? “We’re most excited about being in the company of our closest family and friends for an evening to celebrate our love for one another! We have so many great people in our lives and there are very few opportunities in life to be surrounded by all those people at the same time.”
Do you have any pieces of advice for other couples getting their engagement photos done? “As far as tips go for couples about to have an engagement session, our main tip is to try to incorporating important elements of your relationship into the photos. For example, we both love our dog and having her in our pictures made the session feel more representative of our everyday life. We were both a little nervous having never done a photoshoot like this before but just relax and listen to the photographer’s instruction; we did and our photos turned out great!”
