I love telling the story of how I met Megan + Nich. It’s almost as romantic as their very own love story (featured after the photos), and I’m so happy I was able to connect with them and do their Seattle engagement photos this spring!
Last year, during my final spring break vacation as a teacher at Northglenn High School, I hopped on an Icelandair flight to Reykjavik, with Edinburgh, Scotland as my second destination on the trip and Krakow, Poland as the last stop.
While I was in Edinburgh, I took a free walking tour through my favorite company, Sandeman’s New Europe, and there, I met Austin, a Seattleite who was on vacation in the UK for a friend’s wedding. We hung out for the rest of the day, explored the Edinburgh Castle, and later on had haggis for dinner, where his friends Nich + Megan met us at Edinburgh’s oldest pub.
While we were all chatting over dinner, we all talked about our lives in the U.S. and what we do for our jobs. At the time, I was still a teacher so I talked mostly about that, but I also mentioned that I do wedding photography. Megan instantly lit up, exclaiming that she + Nich were still looking for a photographer for their upcoming wedding this year. “Do you ever travel for weddings?!” she asked, and I said a big-fat-yes-I-do!
Now, if you can believe it, we are all going to Cancún together this winter for their elopement!
It is truly amazing where I’ve met some of my clients. They’ve found me through Facebook, Instagram, wedding blogs, and now, on holiday in Scotland. I am so excited to travel again with Megan + Nich for their simple yet sweet celebration in Mexico this winter. They are such a fun pair and I just know we’ll have a blast floating down that lazy river at the resort in Cancún.
For now, enjoy their Seattle engagement photos and keep an eye out for their destination wedding this coming soon! Thanks for stopping by the blog.
Mini-interview with the bride- and groom-to-be:
How did you two meet?
Nich and I met Halloween night of 2009. My roommates and I were hosting the first and only college party we would ever throw, when a cow walked in the door. Well, not really, but Nich was dressed like one. I just remember thinking, “Man, that is one cute cow!” We spent the night chatting and decided to have our first date two days later on my birthday. The rest is history!
How did you become engaged?
Four years later, Nich and I were on a trip to Puerto Vallarta, when he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him on the beach, overlooking the water. It was really romantic, but unfortunately I thought he was joking (initially) so I left him on the ground for a while. Of course, I said yes though, and we sealed it with a kiss with the most romantic sunset in the background.
How did you end up selecting your wedding venue? What do you like about it?
That’s how we ultimately decided on our wedding Venue in Cancún, Mexico! We always envisioned eloping and just having the two of us on a beach reciting our vows, but we initially got a bit wrapped up in what we thought we had to do for our wedding. So, we started planning a beautiful wedding here in our home town of Seattle, Washington. Until one day, when we were at our final catering tasting, we were reminded of our original vision. At which point, we promptly decided to follow our instincts and cancel “Wedding #1” for something a bit more tropical. And, here we are!
What are you most excited about for your wedding day?
I’m most excited to walk down the aisle and see Nich’s smiling face when he sees me for the first time in my dress. I’m hoping there’s a tear or two there. I think he’s most excited for the lazy river at our resort, and the wedding, of course.
What is one piece of advice or tip you can give to other brides- and grooms-to-be who are also planning their wedding right now?
Elope! No, just kidding. But seriously, stay true to your own vision for your wedding, whatever that may be, and don’t worry about pleasing anyone. Because you’re going to make people mad no matter what you do, so you might as well enjoy it! It is your day after all! Also, remember that while your wedding is an incredibly special day, it shouldn’t be the most important day of your life. Every day with your partner should be one of the best of your life.
What do you love about your significant other?
Megan: Nich is honestly the kindest, hardest working, funniest man I’ve ever met. He wakes me up every morning with a smile on his face and can make me laugh like no other. We are truly best friends first, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I can’t wait to make this funny man my husband!
Nich: I couldn’t be happier to have such a strong, confident, and beautiful woman by my side to enjoy all that life has in store for us. We’ve been together for five awesome years, and I can’t wait for an eternity ahead of us!
